Gunnerside Gill, a walk up into the hills behind Gunnerside village, Yorkshire Dales.

Visit a beautiful valley in Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales, through which runs Gunnerside Gill. Despite it's industrial past, this valley is truly beautiful, with the rock strewn stream, steep wooded sides and gentle pasture & moorland above. Iconic Yorkshire Dale landscape with the lower hillsides dotted with stone built barns & stone walls. The upper reaches of the valley more barren & desolate.

Calders, The Howgill Fells walk from Sedbergh

My intention on starting out on the day was to walk up High-Cup-Nic, near Appleby-in-Westmorland, but going up over the A66, there was just fog. I could see that the Howgills were in sunshine, so made my way over to there. It's good to have options. The original destination will still be there. So a good walk, up onto the Howgills, I will definitely be returning. Link to YouTube video, via the photo left.

Approaching my 65th year, I needed cheering up, a walk up to Carlton Bank.

Four days before I became 65 years old, nearly an OAP, but I don't get my pension for another year. I think being 65 was playing on my mind, I know it was. However, after a good walk along part of the C2C/Cleveland Way walk, my mind set changed for the better. Easy navigation up to Carlton Bank, more difficult and new on the return.
If you are concentrating on navigation, you take your mind off your troubles/negative thoughts. Finished the walk in a positive frame of mind. Link to YouTube video via photo

Don't wear cotton - 'Kalenji'  -

All the advice is "Don't wear cotton, it absorbs sweat and makes you uncomfortable" - I totally agree and at last I have found some boxer shorts that are a reasonable price, a good fit and supportive.
See my video review in my link from the picture left.

A new piece of kit, the Govee Bluetooth Thermometer

I saw this bluetooth thermometer on a YouTube channel, on an American backpacking channel, talking about useful bits of kit that are not expensive. It only weighs 23 grammes and measures just 35 x35x12 mm.
It connects to an App on your phone and records the temperature and humidity, I would expect it is designed for growing plants but for recording overnight temperatures  in the tent in winter perfect

The Alpkit - "Brukit" a jetboil style lpg cooker - review

It took me ages to discover, how to pack the parts of the "Brukit" into the 1 litre container, together with the small gas container, there just wasn't enough room for the plastic lid to fit.
The gas holder legs go in first, with the 'feet' facing up.
Then the burner, followed by the small gas container, then the additional pot holder (upside down), for use with traditional pans rather than the heat exchanger, then everything fits. I use a small piece of sponge at the bottom & top to stop rattling [nothing more annoying as you walk along].
I'm very happy with the Alkpit variant of the MSR Jet Boil. The Brukit cost £59.99, whilst the MSR Jet Boil costs from £135 to £169, is the latter worth the extra, i will never know, as I wouldn't spend that mush money on a stove.

Terra Nova Trident 2 review

Having used the Terra Nova Trident 2 overnight up on Urra Moor, on the North Yorks Moors I was very happy with it, Easy to put up, even in the dark, but I was unable to show the tent, due to the darkness. So here is a short video I made in the garden, A great little tent similar in design to the Vango Mirage Pro 200, but lighter and with I believe enhanced poles. Great for a winter tent.

My first use of the Terra Nova Trident 2 tent

I needed a night away under the stars, and having a new tent gave me the opportunity. It took me ages to get my kit together, as I was in "My room" I decided to sort out all my kit, that took longer than I expected.
Then when I finally left home intending to park near Scugdale, close to Swainby off the A172, there was a climbing meet at Barker's crags, so zero parking spaces. Then I realised the micro sd card for my action camera was still in my laptop at home.
So a drive home, grab the Micro sd card and drive out to Hawnby and up onto Urra moor, literally as it was getting dark. The sun had set, so i had 30 minutes of light. I managed to find a spot to pitch and had a great nights sleep. (asked to move on by a very friendly Game keeper - I was already awake & packing).
A sturdy tent, plenty of space for Lola. myself and my kit for long winter nights. Looking forward to using it more once winter arrives.
