"Over the hill but still young at heart" Keep on walking!!!

"Don't let the Old Man in"

When I moved to North Yorkshire I inquired about joining a walking group and was informed I was too old, as I was over 55 years of age!!!
Luckily, I'm in my 60's and still active, taking long walks in sometimes challenging terrain, and thoroughly enjoying it. Both as day hikes and backpacking, normally accompanied by my dog Lola. Small in size, but enormous in personality!!
I want to pass some of that excitement on to people, and the skills I have learnt to keep myself safe.
So often what we expect to see on the ground, when referring to our maps, is no longer there. More often than not footpaths, do NOT follow the course indicated by the 'public footpath' represented on the map. People tend to take the easiest route, whilst some farmers & land owners
make access challenging, moving fences, block or fail to maintain gates & stiles etc.
The countryside is a living organism and as such you have to learn to navigate to meet those changes.

If you don't want to learn to navigate yourself, I can take the stress out of the day in the hills, by   leading the walk for you, so you don't have to worry about navigation etc.

From £35.00 per person
per day.

Walk leader - MLTB mountain leader

The "Old Plodder" - Old as in my 60's (Born-1958), Plodder as in a "steady progress, not in a rush to the top"  who has been walking the mountains of England, Scotland and Wales since my early 20's. Qualified Mountain Leader. When I returned to the UK from living in Crete for 5 years, I decided to return to the hobby of my 20's to 50's mountain walking and backpacking, even though I was now in my 60's.
{in my 50's I was too busy running a business [I got my work/ life balance all wrong], then too hot whilst living in Crete ]. It is great exercise and keeps you fit, both physically and mentally, which is so important in this stressful day and age.

"Don't let the Old Man in!!" - I hear so many people say I can't do this or I can't learn that, as I'm too old. They are younger than me. Mentally and physically old before their time - all to do with attitude

We live in or are visiting an area with so many wild and exhilarating places to explore, even better if experienced under your own steam. So get your walking boots on and come and join me for a walk, you will feel so much better,
It's never too late to learn new skills or brush up on old ones.
Modern walking gear is so much more affordable and comfortable to wear than 'out door gear' of the past. So get out and join me!!

I worked in Kent from 1979 until 2007, travelling up to North Yorkshire, the Lake District or North Wales, on my one weekend off a month, to walk and camp in the hills. A respite from my work life.
After retirement I started a Handyman business which I ran until we moved to Crete from 2014 until 2019. It was far too warm to walk far in the summer months. The winter months were perfect for walking.
Having moved back to North Yorkshire, I have renewed my love for walking and backpacking in the Hill, Moors and Dales of North Yorkshire and the Lake District.
I passed my MLTB Mountain Leader qualification in 1984.

My small & loyal trusty companion

Lola my dog from when we lived in Crete for 5 years. We have had her since she was thrown away into a shop door way, aged 3 weeks. Since then she has had nothing but love and more love.
She has adapted to living in the UK so well.
Watch out for her, she will try and beg extra food. Apart from that she is perfect. Oh! She loves pork pies.
